First and foremost, thank you for visiting The Philosopher’s Monocle. In this day and age, when so many devices and apps are fighting for our precious attention, I am grateful that you elected to spend some time with me today. As a husband, father, 9-5’er, and blogger, I am acutely aware of how valuable a resource time is. I don’t like it when my time is wasted, and I do not intend to waste yours.
The Philosopher’s Monocle is a blog about ideas. It doesn’t say “you should” but rather “what if” and “perhaps try this”. It’s the distilled version of my many journals in which I write down my thoughts about life, death, productivity, nutrition protocols, mindfulness, the purpose of life, and many of the other big (and small) questions out there. My goal with this blog is not to be a lecturer but a participant in a dialogue. I encourage comments to ask questions, spin the essay in a new light, or flat-out tell me that I’m wrong. I’m here to learn just as much you are.
Although I don’t directly discuss politics, some of the topics I’ll pursue may have a political-tint, but it’s always coming from a philosophical perspective. In this regard, I hope it encourages real, thoughtful discussion and not the usual morass of bitterness we often find on the Internet. In fact, this is a sub-goal of the blog: to be able to discuss “political” topics such as gun control and abortion but with our “Philosopher’s Monocle”, that is, with reason - not emotion.
And last but not least, a quick note about the overall goal of this blog. I believe that an objective purpose of individual human life is to be a life-long learner, to grapple with the illusions that grip us by Natural Selection and Evolutionary Psychology, to go against the grain of these dominating influences, and prepare the future generations of mankind to better thrive in their environments. By living a life of wisdom, of suffering, of triumph, of reflection - we can all nudge Natural Selection to produce a modern mind for our modern environment. Through the Philosopher’s Monocle, I hope to reach at least one other person, to maybe open their senses to a new, more true way of thinking, experiencing, and living, and by doing so, not only help them live a more fulfilling life, but all of humanity as well.
Sincerely,
The Author
